Artist Bio
Art has the power to create a space to ponder on concepts in different perspectives. This need for space is Mia Seelos’ inspiration to create. Seelos is a painter, designer, and a color enthusiast. Coming from a conservative upbringing, Seelos challenges traditional concepts in her paintings to find a deeper moral voice. As a designer, she strives to encourage dialogue and aid easier communication through artistic skills. Finding colors that harmonize and vibrate inspire Seelos to create, using color to ignite emotion that transcends language.
Seelos received her BA in Studio Art, Graphic Design emphasis from CSU Channel Islands in Southern California. Classically trained in Fine Arts Ms. Seelos’ passions revolve around color theory, oil paints, values textures, depth and a back lying reason for creation.
Artist’s Statement
Seelos’ piece ‘Internal Dialogue’, 30 x 40in contains oil paint, photographs, fabric, and thread. With a collaged composition, this piece echoes the process of puzzling together separate, yet connected memories into a stream of ‘remembering’. The shades of tans, blues, and greens were inspired by the colors I saw growing up in the Mojave Desert, creating my personal sense of home.
All of my pieces are made with intuition and intention. Physical photographs from my grandfather’s collection to realism painted moments, my creative process was inspired from a deeper level of the personal unconscious. Within ‘Internal Dialogue’ I string together mismatched items of significance, which in the end, build into a beautiful person of unique personal experiences. This piece reflects on the precious fact that every person has a unique soul story. This piece allows the viewer to question what a collection of memories would look like and what would people be without them?
