Physical and natural forces through time have shaped Santa Rosa’s landscape into what we see today. These varied landscapes, the life they support, and the history and change they reflect immerses every island visitor and prompts much creative thought and expression.

“The beauty of the island’s coast is unrivaled in California, and it was heartbreaking every time I set up to paint, because it meant I had to choose one scene and pass up countless others. No shortage of inspiration out there.”

“During my trips to Santa Rosa island, I experienced small treasures that I couldn’t believe were so close to home. The air felt better, the sun felt brighter and the ground felt more real underneath me. Each time I’d have the chance to make the trip with professors and classmates, I knew I’d find something new to see and feel.”
